Volvo XC60 Concept to Bow in Detroit

Since Volvo's XC90 and XC70 have enjoyed considerable success, the company has decided to add yet another soft roader to the stable. This one, called the XC60, will be shown in concept form at the Detroit Motor Show in January.

The XC60 concept sees a refreshing and elegant design, which approaches parity with Ford Europe's compelling "kinetic" design language. The rear design is original (and very Volvo), while the front end design is reminiscent of the recently launched C30. The sheetmetal appears stretched and angular, with styling designed to give the vehicle a sporting appearance and convey an illusion of momentum.

The car will be based on the same platform as the Land Rover Freelander (nee LR2 in the States), and feature all-wheel drive and a choice between several four - and five cylinder engines. The baby XC90 is expected to debut in production trim for the 2009 model year.
